Will you be addressing how heavy metal toxicity which is very common today can impact GI function? Does it need to be incorporated into GI treatment plans?

        Rebecca,
I can discuss this as a general topic of gut intervention. However, the thing about heavy metals is that can adversely affect the gut, and the gut not being healthy can effect the process of detoxification. My preference is to try and address underlying gut toxicity, i.e. food sensitivities, candida, parasites, and/or bacterial issues as much as possible before actively addressing heavy metal detoxification. The reality is in there will be people who need metal detoxification whose digestive systems are completely healthy, but the decision to proceed seems clinically warranted.

The biggest challenge with traditional chelators are the oral agents such as DMSA or DMPS which can aggravate intestinal yeast.

        Sincerely,
        Dr. Woeller

P.S. this is a great question for the question and answer sessions too
