Lorraine,
Candida is opportunistic so maintaining a healthy diet, along with probiotics and support supplements and avoiding as best as possible antibiotics and toxins will go a long way in preventing against the return of candida issues. People will also need to watch their stress levels which compromise HPA axis activity and immune function, as well as getting adequate sleep and exercise. Some overall nice maintenance support supplements are the following:
-Support Mucosa – 1 to 2 capsules twice daily – http://www.biomatrixone.com
-Curcumin 250 – 1 to 2 capsules twice daily – http://www.nbnus.com
-Probiotic Support Formula or TherBiotic Complete – 1 to 2 capsules daily – http://www.nbnus.Dr. Woeller

Hi Dr. Woeller,
Really enjoying the GI Mastery course. Considering that candida uses nutrients such as NAD (B3) and folate, certain minerals for its own benefit, would you still supplement? One the one hand these deficiencies interfere with detox pathways, methylation cycle, etc., but wouldn’t it also further the growth of yeast when you supplement? I’ve used transdermals in these cases as I’m not always sure whether oral supplementation would be best. What’s your experience?
I guess this would also include lysine. I often use lysine in yeast overgrowth conditions, but now wonder if arabinose binds to lysine, am I making something worse by giving lysine even though they may need it?
Thank you,
Elizma -

Elizma,
We are glad you are enjoying the course.Transdermal administration of supplements may work. I have been suspicious of their efficacy in the past, but have seen some people benefit. I don’t use them routinely though.
Also, candida will access these nutrients too from food so we cannot avoid the inevitable and become deficient in the process. There are too many upsides to these nutrients and will use them if need be.
Same thing with Lysine. If you patient needs it, then I would advocate continuing to give it.
