In our lecture last night I discussed Arabinose values from the Organic Acids Test. We also discussed protocol templates for mild, moderate and severe candida overgrowth situations.

Arabinose values tend to fluctuate for various individuals and no two values are identical with regards to the effects they can have on cellular metabolism or generating symptoms. Also, depending on sex and age the reference ranges are different.

I feel any elevation of arabinose should be treated. What needs to be determined clinically is how aggressive to get with medications and/or botanicals.

Generally speaking a mild Arabinose level can be viewed as 1/2 to 1 times the upper range of normal. For example, a reference range up to 50 and a value of Arabinose at 75 or 100 would be mild.

Moderate, in this scenario, would be 101 to 150, and above 150 would be severe/significant.

What the numbers don’t tell you is how compromised the patient is. This needs to be determined by examination and clinical interview. Some people have a lot problems with yeast with Arabinose in the mild range and others with an Arabinose that would be categorized severe/significant may not have a lot of symptoms. Therefore, your decision in how to treat should be based not just on the lab value, but the clinical presentation of the individual.

        Sincerely,
        Dr. Woeller
